Resuming HRT after discontinuing it for over one year carries increased risks and is generally not recommended, making timing of initiation critical. The dosage in HRT is significantly lower than in birth control pills, and some women who cannot take oral contraceptives may be candidates for low-dose HRT under close medical supervision.
