Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. Today, I'd like to talk a little bit about HDL cholesterol, high density lipoprotein.

This is so-called the Good Guy of the cholesterol profile. We like to see HDL high, not low. What raises HDL cholesterol? Well, you've got a genetic predisposition to start with, so thank your parents whatever your HDL is, as a starting point. But then what else can affect HDL? Exercise can raise it. Reducing your carbohydrates can raise it. Being pre-diabetic or diabetic can lower it, and a little bit of alcohol can raise the HDL. Not that I'm recommending that, but they're all the things that can impact on this so-called good cholesterol.

I had the chance to speak with Dr. Karam Kostner, a world expert on treating cholesterol. I've got a podcast all about HDL attached to this video. So, check that out and have a listen. It's a lot more detail than what I've just given you, and you may enjoy it.

For now, however, I'm gonna wish you the very best. Take care and bye for now!
