Hi, my name is Dr. Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. Welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. Today, I'd like to talk about high cholesterol in families.

So, we call that familial within families, hyper meaning increased cholesterol, the fatty stuff we're talking about, emia, meaning in the blood. So familial hypercholesterolemia, meaning families with high cholesterol in the blood.

Well, this is really important because it can identify individuals who are at increased risk of heart attack. And these families tend to have individuals who are male, who have an event with their heart at less than 55 years of age, and women, less than about 60 years of age. It is critical we identify these people early in their lives and put in appropriate management strategies, cause by doing that we really can save their lives.

I've done a podcast on the very topic with Dr. Karam Kostner, an Australian and international leader in that space. So check it out.

From the Healthy Heart Network, I hope you live as well as possible, for as long as possible. Until next time. Take care and bye for now.
