Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. Welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. Today, I'd like to talk about cardiovascular disease and one of the burning questions that many people ask, which is why me?

Why me? In a condition that is probably the most significant killer of people in Australia. Fifty thousand people a year. And it's responsible for more hospital admissions than any other single disease alone, coronary artery disease and heart defect. One in six people, two out of three families, and every 12 minutes an Australian dies from a heart related issue. This is an enormous, an enormous, enormous burden. And we can do a lot for it these days if we can identify and mitigate risk early on.

I've had the absolute pleasure to share an interview with Dr Alastair Begg, a cardiologist based in Adelaide, talking all about why me in this complex condition of coronary artery disease, some of the statistics, but really some of the important aspects that we need to understand to reduce future risk, not just for us, but for the people we love and our greater community.

There's a double podcast for that. So if you're interested and there's a lot to listen to, please click on the link below or attached to this video so you can go to my podcast and have a listen to those two episodes on cardiovascular disease 'Why me?' For now, however, I'm going to wish you the very best. Take care. Until next time. Bye for now.
