Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. Today, I'd like to touch on cardiac failure and women.
Women do represent a particular subset of cardiac failure. Specifically, some of the drugs used in breast cancer treatment can impact the heart and can have a consequence in that space. Secondly, a particular type of cardiac failure that we call heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction or heart failure with preserve pumping of the heart seems to occur more in women than men, particularly so women who have had elevated blood pressure or carried too much weight over the years.
