Hi, my name's Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist.

I'd like to tell you briefly about stents today, and you may have heard of two different types of stents. One is called bare-metal stents and one called drug-eluting stents. Well, bare-metal stents, as the name suggests, have nothing on them. These are stents that have no impregnated chemical in them. We don't tend to use these as much anymore as we now tend to favor drug-eluting stents. These drug-eluting stents are impregnated with special chemicals that actually stop the process of proliferation of cells which might close the artery back down. So these drug-eluting stents these days, the technology's improved, they are the preferred agent and they work really well. We use those drugs to try and reduce the risk of that stent closing down from the blood vessel growing back. Well, fascinating area.

I've actually done a podcast on that. So if you're interested, please click the link below and have a listen. In the meantime, I wish you the very best. I hope you don't need a drug-eluting stent. Please don't die from a heart attack and goodbye.
