Hi, my name is Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. Well, I thought I'd tell you today what is an angiogram?

Well, angio relates to blood vessel and gram relates to picture. So angiogram means blood vessel picture. And we can do that several ways in cardiology. The most direct way is in invasive coronary angiogram where we literally put a tube into the vascular system generally from a point in the leg, pass a tube up into the arteries of the heart and squirt a dye or contrast directly into those arteries so we can see them as clearly as possible. That's an invasive angiogram. But we can also take pictures of the coronary arteries using a CT scanner. That's a CT coronary angiogram. It's not invasive. It's a pretty safe test. Gives us great information. Both those tests are specific to particular clinical situations, but I hope that explains something.

If you are after more information, I've done a podcast on the very topic below. Click on that and enjoy. Till next time, look after your arteries and get a great picture of them. Good health. Goodbye. And please don't die from a heart attack. Goodbye.
