Welcome to Day 22, and we're talking about the importance of checkups. Well, honestly, for me, this seems like common sense.

We all get our car checked. When I get an email or a text from the local Toyota dealer, I take my car in and get it checked, even if it's running well. And that's because things can go wrong even when things appear to be going smoothly—and the heart is no different.

You may have elevated cholesterol levels. You can't feel that. The only way you can know is by checking. Your blood pressure may be up a bit. You don't know that unless you go and get it measured. It's so important to be proactive about your heart health. If you believe that nothing will ever happen to you, then you probably have a misplaced belief. Everyone will have something go wrong over time, given long enough.

So what can you do? We're just going to get checked up. Get simple things done like blood pressure, cholesterol, and sugars. All these are super duper important. I talk about coronary artery calcium scoring over and over in this 28-day program, so please think about that. I've even provided a link for you to be able to obtain that without the need to see a GP or a specialist.

It's really important to recognize that there can be significant problems within the arteries, and people can feel well right up until the time that they don't. The very first presentation of problems with the arteries can be a heart attack. And of those heart attacks, one in six people die. They don't necessarily give you a second go. Heart attacks are not charitable.

So who should get checked? Well, certainly blokes 45 to 50 should be thinking about getting screened for cardiovascular disease. Women about 55 to 60. And you'd probably do that a bit earlier if there was a family history. In families where there's very high, very, very high cholesterol, we might screen the children at an early age. We also know that some of our First Nations people should probably be screened earlier as well—maybe 30, 35 years of age.

What's really important to recognize is that if we can identify problems with the heart early, we've got really good strategies that can prevent a problem in the longer term. Routine checkups give us the opportunity, the charge, to identify these issues and potentially mitigate the risk or even create an alternate universe where you remain fit and well.

Do get your blood pressure checked. Make sure your weight's okay. Check your sugars. And I've flagged coronary artery calcium scoring a number of times—check that out as well.

For now, I'm going to wish you the very best. I really look forward to catching you tomorrow. Thank you for getting this far, and we are on the home straight.

Till next time, take care and bye for now.
