In this podcast, Doctor Warrick discusses the impact of obesity, pre-diabetes, and diabetes on heart attack prevention.
He explains that the widespread availability of high-caloric processed foods and less activity has led to the obesity epidemic in first-world countries. Carrying extra weight can increase the risk of atherosclerosis coronary artery disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and diabetes. The most important thing people can do is to be aware of the impact of high-caloric processed foods and eat natural, balanced foods. Weight loss becomes complex once the weight is too high, and caloric restriction and carbohydrate restriction are valuable starting points. Face-to-face interaction with someone to support weight loss makes the most sense, and accountability and support are important factors. Medications and bariatric surgery can be options for weight loss.
Diabetes is closely linked to atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease, and early intervention is much better than leaving it too late.
