On This Workshop

What is it?

People describe a pounding heart, breathlessness, loss of balance, fear but some people don’t even know they have the condition. Doctors call it an "irregularly irregular rhythm", but what does that mean medically and what does that mean for you?

What Causes it?

Atrial Fibrillation is a complex condition that is seen in about 1% of the population and over 10% of the population who are 80 years of age or older. There’s no question that increasing age is a risk factor for developing the condition but what other things can contribute to this common rhythm and what might you be able to do to avoid it?

What Do We Do About it?

When your doctor diagnoses atrial fibrillation, they take action to control the heart rate, reduce the risk of complications and if possible return things to normal. There are blood tests and investigations that are considered routine to help in the management and help in you getting the best care.
